These days, we sometimes need other things to occupy our minds.

Monday night was opening day for college basketball, with about 240 teams playing their first game of the season. I got season tickets to Loyola again this year, as I have for the past seven or eight seasons. Last night the Ramblers beat Cleveland State 91-88 on a last-second three-pointer to avoid going to overtime.
It certainly was a distraction. For several hours, I did not think about the elections on Tuesday, the Border Patrol doing an invasion of Chicago, the President threatening to send troops to various American cities, the direction by the President to send poll watchers to states, the demolition of 1/3 of the White House, the bifurcation of the American economy, the widening wealth gap, the huge increase in health care premiums coming up this year, the gerrymandering of several conservative states at the President’s direction, the capture of the media by billionaires/corporations, and the pile of dishes I left in the sink for the night.
There’s another game coming up Thursday night, and another on Sunday. We can use all the distractions we can find.
