John Thomas is a former broadcaster, urban planner, comedy writer, and journalist currently living in Chicago, but preparing to move to Portugal.
After working in radio at stations in Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle, he studied journalism and urban planning and made a career shift into public relations.
During Thomas’ radio career, he did a lot of work in comedy; first as a regular contributor on the Howard Stern Show (in Washington, DC, before he went to New York), then as a writer, producer and performer for the Los Angeles morning radio show of the legendary comedy team Lohman and Barkley (they have a star on Hollywood Boulevard). That experience led to several years as a co-host on morning radio shows in Chicago and Seattle. In Chicago, John studied Improv with the brilliant and legendary Del Close.
After earning a BA in Communication and a Master’s in Urban Planning, Thomas was a spokesperson and the communications director for a transportation planning agency and a small college, doing writing and internet projects on the side. He was a Board Member for a transit agency in downstate Illinois for 10 years, during which time the agency won the top small community transit award from the American Public Transit Association.
