Wow! So I saw the news about former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro being sent to prison, and I wondered… how much does it cost to go to Brazil these days?
So I put in two dates in March, and I gasped at the results.
I bought a pair of glasses at Warby Parker in October, and the glasses were more than the round trip to South America– even if you include the $81 visa fee.
Seriously, I spent about $1100 to fly to Rio on Pan Am in 1982, and 43 years later it’s less than half the price. Granted, that was during Carnival in 1982, but my slightly off-peak flight in 2026 is a crazy, amazing bargain.
I think my flights in 1983 and 1985 were also 80-100% higher than my ticket for March. How often do you gasp at the affordability of an intercontinental round trip air fare? That’s what happened to me, and when it did, I pulled the trigger.
